You might be surprised to know that I actually spend quite a bit of time sketching out ideas for pieces. This one started with a google search for 'Art Deco Architecture' as the gold and teal reminded me of several buildings in Mexico City done in this style. I then sketch out elements that I love before digging into to Photoshop.
The piece was created by photographing a cicada, then selecting sections of the photo to create radial patterns. These patterns and other elements are layered in Photoshop to create the final piece.
